This guy spent $150,000,000.00 the last election cycle (most on MR):

Casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson told a crowd at Yeshiva University in New York on Tuesday that the only proper negotiating tactic with Iran would be fire a nuclear missile at the country and threaten to wipe out the entire population of Tehran, the nation's capital.
Adelson, the largest donor to the Republican Party and its affiliated groups, made the comments during a panel discussion hosted by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Wall Street Journal columnist Bret Stephens and Yeshiva University President Richard Joel. Adelson's remarks were videotaped by Philip Weiss of the news site Mondoweiss:
What are we going to negotiate about? I would say "Listen, you see that desert out there, I want to show you something." … You pick up your cell phone and you call somewhere in Nebraska and you say, "OK let it go." And so there’s an atomic weapon, goes over ballistic missiles, the middle of the desert, that doesn’t hurt a soul. Maybe a couple of rattlesnakes, and scorpions, or whatever. Then you say, "See! The next one is in the middle of Tehran. So, we mean business. You want to be wiped out? Go ahead and take a tough position and continue with your nuclear development. You want to be peaceful? Just reverse it all, and we will guarantee you that you can have a nuclear power plant for electricity purposes, energy purposes." |
How is sensible policy possible when guys like this are dropping 150mil on elections. |

Let's do this: every "war of choice" could be funded by a special tax. The special tax would be calculated as an additional 1% of tax on wealth upon initiation, but with a minimum levy of $100 on every citizen, with subsequent equal levies at six months, a year, two years, and four years into the war.
By "war of choice" I mean any war which would not fall under the War Powers Resolution, i.e. is waged willingly but not in direct response to an attack on U.S. forces, U.S. soil, or U.S. citizens. |

Sounds like a recipe for false flag soup.

Then Israel will simply attack US forces, soil and citizens (dressed as Arabs or Iranians) and Sheldon will keep his money. Israeli cousins in the media will say it is a conspiracy theory and we'll all pretend that all is solid.

Adelson funds R's and Saban funds D's.

At a conference last fall in Israel, Saban described his formula. His “three ways to be influential in American politics,” he said, were: make donations to political parties, establish think tanks, and control media outlets. In 2002, he contributed seven million dollars toward the cost of a new building for the Democratic National Committee—one of the largest known donations ever made to an American political party. That year, he also founded the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution, in Washington, D.C. |

I am surprised to see you write that.

I have never seen an indication that you'd accept the concept of a false flag. I thought you more mainline. Not saying that as an insult. |

There's no extra incentive for a false flag than now. |

Agreed. We know that Dempsey went to Israel and warned against a "Liberty style event". Israel needs her wars. |

I'm all for a war tax, but it must be for all wars and must last for 70 years. Hostilities might last for only a few weeks or years, but the physical and psychological harm done to members of the military are permanent. The 1% tax must also be listed separately by name on people's tax returns. (Veterans of each war can claim tax exemption.) |

The amount of money both men are spending amplifies their voices and minimizes the voices of regular people.
But the focus on money distracts from just how horrifying Adelson's position is.
For a film of Adelson talking about nuking Tehran: http://www.msnbc.com/all-in |

The war tax has to end when the war does, therein lies the incentive to pursue peace once it becomes most difficult to achieve; soon after war has started.
The idea is to make the penalty reach everyone, but be most serious to those with wealth. A wealth tax is simply devastating to the wealthy, but even $100 to the beleaguered lower-middle-class would impose a deterrent. It is not meant to fund the war's legacy costs entirely.
Exempting veterans seems obvious now that you have proposed it. |

Mandatory military service for all (perhaps police service for those with extreme physical handicap or religious/moral reservations about military service). Tack on passing a basic IQ test as a further requirement for voting rights, and we'd be well on our way to having a functional republic once again. |

Adelson and the Koch brothers are so disappointed they haven't gotten their war. |
