I've heard things as far as jobs go move a lot faster in Korea than they do in the west, but something doesn't feel right to me here. Here's the scenario:

Applied with a recruiter yesterday morning. I received the standard, generic, introductory e-mail thanking me for my application, ect. Then, about forty minutes later, there was another e-mail saying one of their schools already wanted to interview me. Granted, I do have all of my documents in order so I am ready to go and noted that on my application. But forty minutes after having submitted an application to a recruiter? Still seems a bit odd, but this could just be me not knowing the pace of things.

I still plan on doing the interview tonight to see what it's all about. I think it would still be a good experience and an interview doesn't necessarily commit me to anything Smile

Is it possible the tide has turned and Korea is moving in the direction of becoming once again desperate for any NET they can find? Very Happy

Serves 'em right, let them learn the hard way. They might even learn some respect.

I doubt it. My guess is the OP is young, blonde, beautiful, and female.

This made me laugh. You have the female part right, though!

So far, I am getting the impression that the swiftness of the response might have been due to desperation and not shadiness. All the same, I will be proceeding with extreme caution with this one.

Thank you all for your feedback!

That one is most important of all. As a female, you can be choosy and get the best jobs. Welcome to Korea.

This post makes a refreshing change from the hundreds we see along the lines of "I've made 100 applications and got no interviews!"

Seems people get pissed when they can't get an interview then skeptical when they get one. Madness! Very Happy

I suspect the drama last March when it seemed Korea was on the brink of war turns a lot of people off.

I don't think it sounds shady. It does sound reminiscent of "the good old days." In 2006, I had never worked abroad and within a few minutes of posting my resume, I had accepted job offers in Taiwan and South Korea and actually took the one in Seoul for real, which was a totally awesome school.

Sometimes, it's just luck and timing. I flew here from China with no job in August of 2012 and got my current job within 24 hours of landing at Incheon. It's a great school too!

If it's Wonderland....RUN! Laughing

Thank you everyone for your responses. I feel silly for being so skeptical at first and even a little ashamed of myself. I had the interview and I could tell the school was legit. My interviewer was extremely opened to all my questions and very genuine. My interviewer was eager to put me in touch with people who had worked for the school in the past, the present, and people who simply live in the area in which I would be working.

What I should have been feeling was extreme gratitude and a sense of good fortune when I was scheduled so quickly for an interview. I hope this is one of many learning experiences yet to come. Even if I am not selected for the job, I am still happy that I was even considered in the hiring process. The interview was a great experience for me. Now I know what to expect Smile

Thank you all again. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday Smile
