I know this is flexible from experience, but say your employer wants you to move out ASAP (because your replacement needs to move in).

Can the employer just inform you on your last day of work without even one day's notice to "move out by the end of today"? This is assuming you complete your contract.

Why don’t you ASK THEM when they want you to leave by?

As for what they can do:

Delay/not give you money owed

Give a bad/worse reference

Call the police and say that you abused someone

Kidnap you

Cut you up and feed you to pigs

Water board you

Make you listen to K-pop

Plant drugs on you

Call the local gang member and say that you think he's effeminate.

Korean law generally favors the tenant/occupant. If you're legally registered as being there (i.e. it's on your ARC) then it would be hard for someone to legally boot you out. It would involve going to court to do it legally. It wouldn't stop a lot of people from waiting until you pop out to the store and then just tossing your stuff out on the sidewalk. Legally though, there's nothing they can do to immediately evict you. Since your boss is paying the rent, there's a good chance that he won't pay you in full. That's also illegal but there would be nothing you could do about it if you're leaving the country.

I would recommend asking them when they want you out and then either negotiating something with them for the extra day or just stay at a hotel for a night.

If you knew this day was coming, why not be packed up & ready to go?
If I just arrived & that was was going to be my new place, I'd be irked, & I'm sure the boss would be too.

To answer your question, you really have till around noon the next day after your contract expires.

But you knew this day was coming, you should be prepared to go.

Hang out for a while longer. See what happens. Cheaper than buying a hotel.

Offer to pay for the new teacher to stay at a motel (not hotel!).

Worth noting, this is in order of ascending discomfort.

Do you really have a flight the next day? SHOW THEM!!!
Are you just trying to piss them off?

What is the reason for staying? I usually decide on a date with the school and then leave before (key on the kitchen counter, bye bye) so they can't weasel any more money out of me.

Ideally, you should have 95% of your stuff moved out of your place a week before said time. This way, all you need to do is throw some bathroom necessities and clothes in your backpack and away you go with laptop in your arms never to be seen again like the Lone Ranger.

I think being fed to pigs may be more uncomfortable than the others, although the last one may result in it.

I was making fun of how bad K-pop is; i.e. it is worse than being fed to pigs or water board torture. But thank you for clarifying the reality of the situation!
