Should credentials be raised for E2 VISA Holders?

Examples:
Teacher Certification
100 Hour TESOL
Masters Degree

This only applies to E2s.

Given the relatively wide variety of jobs which fall under the purview of the E-2 visa, what would the government gain by enforcing a higher universal standard, rather than letting employers decide what criteria they felt was adequate? It would economically benefit highly qualified foreigners and foreigners on other visas (f-4/5/6) at the expense of Korean citizens, who would either be cut off from a service they demanded or forced to pay more for it.

For teaching children,yes. I think the requirements will go up. There has been a long trend for the last few years of employers requiring masters and TESOL certificates.

For teaching at universities, masters and doctorates.

Im not sure it will happen at the immigration level but it has already happened at the university level. As of the past year or so it has become almost impossible to get a uni gig without a MA and at least two years experience.

They won't raise the requirements because they want cheap teachers.

Most of the hakwons that employee foreign teachers can afford to increase pay 400.000 won each month. This would attract teachers with better qualifications to teach. I believe it is time for Korea to step up its game. It is already doing it at the university level. In the overall scheme of things better qualified teachers will help bring about better results.
