|
|
The heaviest alcoholic drinkers in the world were found to be South Koreans and by far so.
They drink so much that they outpace vodka lovers in Russia by a margin of 2:1, according to a survey by Euromonitor.

Does it take into consideration the millions of religious folk in Korea who don't touch alcohol at all? If it does, and they still rank at the top of alcohol consumption, that's really saying something. |

It does.

The survey shows an average South Korean consumes 13.7 shots of alcoholic liquor on a weekly basis |
Total alcohol consumed divided by total population equals average alcohol consumption. It's too much (which is really sad). |

I'm waiting for a study that says World Traveler voted No 1 Korea hater on Dave's ESL Cafe. |

No such study exists, and if it did, it would be far less applicable to life in Korea than a discussion on alcohol consumption. u drunk brah?!1 술 많이 마셔? 딴말하지 마! |

It's not fun drinking or light drinking for social reasons. Plus, it's women drinking, too. This heavy drinking is a crushing burden on families and healthcare costs, in general. Combine it with all of the smoking plus the stressful lifestyles and it's a recipe for a healthcare disaster.

Hmm, maybe some of them are drinking, too, but secretly. I hate to make that accusation but the numbers show that someone is boozing it up. |

Does this take into account the fact that soju has a lower alcohol percentage (21% is it?) than other liquors like vodka? |

I'm not surprised at the results of the survey, but I'm impressed at how well the Koreans maintain great, slim physiques while drinking at that rate. |

It doesn't appear to. But if their numbers are legit, Korea is still ahead in total alcohol consumption. Let's give vodka double the alcohol of Soju, a generous 42%, and 6.3 shots / person / week would be 12.6 shots of soju / person / week, still less than Korea's 13.7 shots / person / week. |

Don't forget that Korean women are the most beautiful women in the world and Korean people can eat spicy food much better than foreigners and Korea has four distinct seasons. By the way, can you use chopsticks very well? |

I dispute this. The average Korean is much lighter than the average Westerner. We Americans may not drink as much alcohol on a per capita basis as Koreans, but we do drink and we are much heavier. |

One thing I've observed in nigh on 19 years living and working in Korea ... Koreans often wildly exaggerate how much they actually drink - and foreigners believe them. |

Maybe that study will come out at the same time as the one showing andrewchon voted as the wittiest poster here. |
