Bit of a shock.

Quote:
Beloved actor Robin Williams died at the age of 63 on Monday, authorities and his wife have confirmed.

Police were the first to announce the death of Williams, who was discovered “unconscious and not breathing inside his residence” in Tiburon, California. A police report was the original source of the announcement.

As a kid, I loved him on Mork and Mindy(which I watched right from the premiere), and thought he was pretty cool in Altman's Popeye(I think the first time I was conscious of watching an "arty" flick).

A friend of mine observed, as the years went by, that studios seemed to be overestimating audiences' tolerance for the guy, and I guess I'd have to concur. His lovable kook schtick got a bit stale after a while. It was interesting to see him take on more serious, even sinister, roles later in his career, with Insomnia and One Hour Photo.

Anyway, thanks for the laughs, and RIP.

Quite a shock to me, although I don't know why since rumor was he had recently fallen off the wagon and had a history of depression. It sounds like he took his own life.

A shame- RIP.

In interviews, he always came across as one of those people who couldn't calm down and be serious for any length of time. In fairness, he was mostly known as a comic, and so I suppose had to keep that aspect of his persona in the public eye, but something about him really did scream "manic depressive".

Rest in piece, Robin.

You were an artist and perfected your craft, inspiring others to laugh..even those who were so far from home, lost and depressed themselves.

Here's to you, "O Captain, my Captain".

Well...hopefully someone will have better, more respectable, things to say in regards to a person of your stature.

That is a despicable thing to say about a person especially someone who has touched so many lives. With perhaps the exception of vile vermin such as murderers and rapists, I would never piss on someone's legacy and say that person was better off dead.

Lost a lot of cred with that.

He had his faults, but don't we all?

He made generations of people laugh and what better gift is there? He also had the gift to be able to make us think and cry through his performance.

I've only heard of positive accounts from all that have ever worked with him, how many can you say that about?

He gave generously of the wealth he acquired and gave his time and talent to help Comic Relief, St. Jude's, and the USO.

I'm thankful for the laughter and the tears he gave me through the years.

Thoughts and prayers for his family whose grief I cannot imagine.

RIP Mr. Williams. Nanu Nanu.

Read that he was close to bankruptcy. Divorces are expensive.

Why these guys continue to live in the USA and do this to themselves is what blows my mind. I mean hell I could have predicted his life back when he was 40; metabolic syndrome, heart attack, depression, drugs, divorce, bankruptcy, dead.

Such a cliche that American life.

And yet he was admired, loved, and respected about a trillion times more than you ever will be.

Because divorce and substance abuse and death don't exist in countries other than the US?
