I lived in Seoul back in the day, just looked up an old friend and found out that he died back in 2011.

Don't suppose anyone heard (in the local press, bars around Itaewon) rumours about how it happened?

April 2011, Captain Mark Gardner- big Seahawks fan, enjoyed the occasional drink.

I was not a close friend but a frequent drinking partner in the juicy bars.

He actually made it to MAJ, got out and worked at the battle sim center. Long story short - his drinking became progressively worse, along with his gambling habit and one night after losing his ass he checked into the Dragon and decided to hang himself. Too bad, he was one of the more intelligent field grades I ever met.

The COD I only know because the head mortuary GS was a close friend.

Is this the same Captain Mark Garner?

"Mark was traveling as a passenger in an M-1151 Humvee with a convoy of U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device killing him and another passenger. Other occupants of the vehicle traveling in southeast Afghanistan were injured."
