Another case of foot and mouth disease has been found in Korean cows.

Australian beef and American beef are safe to eat.

Australian beef and American beef both taste similar to me, I'll take either one.

Wouldn't know. Vegetarian here. But I am amused at the Korean reaction to the news about the recent cases.

Let's all panic over bovine FMD.... not to be confused by the viral human Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (common in kids in Asia).

Humans can be infected with Bovine foot-and-mouth disease through contact with infected animals, but this is extremely rare. Some cases were caused by laboratory accidents. Because the virus that causes FMD is sensitive to stomach acid, it cannot spread to humans via consumption of infected meat, except in the mouth before the meat is swallowed. In the UK, the last confirmed human case occurred in 1966,[1][2] and only a few other cases have been recorded in countries of continental Europe, Africa, and South America. Symptoms of FMD in humans include malaise, fever, vomiting, red ulcerative lesions (surface-eroding damaged spots) of the oral tissues, and sometimes vesicular lesions (small blisters) of the skin. According to a newspaper report, FMD killed two children in England in 1884, supposedly due to infected milk.[3]

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease in humans is caused by a virus called an enterovirus.

The virus spreads easily through coughing and sneezing. It can also spread through infected stool, such as when you change a diaper or when a young child gets stool on his or her hands and then touches objects that other children put in their mouths.

We've been buying American and Aus beef from the local EMart. It's much cheaper than the meat raised here. It's also 1/2 the price. Why would anybody pay 2X - 3X more?

Wife goes to Costco with her friends; a girls day out thing. That trip significantly cuts down on food/household expenses.

Reports are out that foot-and-mouth disease is spreading rapidly nationwide. Some cattle farms have been recently quarantined, with over 800 cattle being culled.
