"Trump must immediately cease talk of pre-emptive war—which must be authorized by Congress—and commit to the diplomatic path advocated by both American experts and the South Korean government."

How anyone can think of coming to teach in South Korea now or simply stay there is crazy.

Shouldn't be an issue. It is Guam that he is threatening... not Seoul.

If a nuke is dropped it is certainly a big issue for everyone!

Funny, after 15 years in Sokcho, a short missile lob from the dmz, I figured I'd left N. Korea well behind by moving to a remote Pacific island -- not far from Guam!

You might want to consider New Zealand ... Anyway, I think Trump's escalating counter-threats approach - though it might possibly work - poses a real danger for anyone living within range of NK artillery - which is a staggering number of people...

On somewhat lighter dark note, there are some fanatics who predict doom for the entire Earth planet on September 23 - 33 days after the upcoming total eclipse ... http://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/eclipse/2017/08/11/eclipse-2017-earth-destroyed-planet-nibiru-says-doomsayer/561247001/

North Korea has had enough short range weapons to wipe out Seoul for a long time.

I don't want to start a heated debate (if that's even possible on this topic) but I want to know, what exactly do you guys think North Korea wants to do with their nukes? Why do you think they want to develop their nuclear weapons program?

Think about it.

They've been pretty straight forward about it, and most analysts agree: they view having nukes as a deterrent to outside forced regime change.

The regime has no legitimate reason or right to exist, and the society is therefore repressive, a massive human rights nightmare, and cut off from the outside world.

They've seen what negotiations and turning over weapons got Lybia and Iraq.

Looking uber long term, in a warped way, having nukes would also be a game changer should they ever try a last gasp attempt at taking over the entire penninsula.

Or eventually leveraging the nukes, the leadership may be able to negotiate its way out of prosectution at the supra-national level.

China has consistently said that it will not accept N. Korea as a nuclear capable state. But, as is often the case, what China says and what it does may be two different things. I wouldn't be surprised, personally, if China offed Kim's brother. He was, after all, supposedly under their protection.

Conspiracy theory aside, it would have been a way to send a message to Kim that he's skating on thin ice as there are no replacements in the wings should he take it too far and suffer any consequences, whether militarily or via domestic upheaval. Look how paranoid the guy has gotten, and for very good reason.

All arm chair quarter backing.
