turning your fan on high and aiming it at yourself during the night will keep the buggers under some control, too. just like camping in a windy area, it blows most of 'em away.

doesn't solve the problem 100%, but every little bit helps, right? combine it with one of those vapourizers...

Plus the fan sucks some of them in and kills them. I was always finding dead mosquitos near my fan...... UNLESS IT WAS NOT THE BLADES AND REALLY FAN DEATH.... oh wait, whew, the windows were open.

Seriously though, sleeping with a fan on you will............ Wink

That sounds reasonable enough, but where do you think the splatter lands?

If it is pointing at your face.... EEEEW Shocked

Have any Koreans ever warned you against this? Many believe that having a fan pointed directly at you while sleeping could suffocate you before your waking hour.

I think it doesn't splat them but just knocks them dead and to the floor. If they were full of blood though maybe, but hopefully not ten feet, or with someone else's blood.

I'm lucky. They like my wife more than me. I think I have some immunity after tree planting. Who knows? Thankfully they don't wake me up anymore. I hated being woken up and trying to find it etc. I prefer to just get bitten, or have it bite my wife. Hope they don't have malaria Shocked

There is, however, Japanese Encephalitis in Korea which I would prefer malaria over. Wink

That's all the explanation I've ever heard about the issue. It's just a belief with out very much substantive proof. Perhaps its a Korean urban myth. I would be interested to find out if that is the case.

How did this thread end up over here in Siberia? Mosquitoes seem decidedly "off-topic" to me.

Do you think that people ask about them frequently?

Well, I've heard that there are a lot of mosquitoes in Siberia, so maybe there is more attention to the problem here.

If this is truly "Frequently asked questions" shouldn't the "What do you think of when I say" thread be over here?
