ok, I KNOW this has been done to death.
I'm planning for a wedding in July (3rd to be exact, hehe) and decided to get off my butt a do a search for the info i needed. I SWEAR i spotted a whole bunch on here months ago BUT for some reason now I can't find it in the search engine.
maybe i'm just tired but heres what i'm looking for...
I'm CDN and wife to be is KOR.
Not wanting to go back to Canada any time soon but wanting to make the marriage official. I remember someting about a "Gu office" and some papers for the CDN embassy.. but now i'm gettin' foggy on it.
Pink and a few others have went through this recently... anyone a better searcher than me?
PS> we're wanting to have kids eventually and I just noticed that you need to prove that you can take care of them for the next 10 years.. OMG |

I am Brit, fiance is Korean.
As I understand it, she needs three copies of her family register, one of which should be translated and notarised by a lawyer. I need passport. I have to fill out some documents that I can download from the internet and then go to the embassy.
They can then start the process and what they have to do takes 25 mins. I then need to go, or she needs to go with those stamped documents to her local gu office, but you can do it at the Jongno gu as they do everyones.
She has to get some more stamps and stuff in there. I then need to go back to the english embassy and they finish off their stamping and forms.
Possible to do it in a day and it costs about 250,000 but that is variable.
That's what I know. May be wrong, may be right, but I am going to go through the paperwork in the next month or so.
Good luck.
Did you tell her there is a wedding yet?? |

Getting married in one of those "wedding halls"? Good luck - and bring your clown shoes, 'cos it's bound to be a circus.... |

Getting married anywhere in Korea is a freak show. There were bubbles, a giant ceramic wedding cake, and Whitney Houston blathering 'I Will Always Love You' at mine. I won't even go into any details about the makeup artists wanting to put more makeup on me than my bride to be. |

I have an Eligibility form which I have had to have notarised by the embassy. I have been told by my better half that her Gu office want this translated into Korean. Doesn't matter by whom as long as it is in Korean and the translators details are on there. They will then notarise it.
So maybe you might want to get this translated........ |

Tha doesn't make sense - or is it some form of new grammar that the rest of the world haven't been told about? |

Sorry, I was drunk and refering to the original question. I should have written...Perhaps you would not want to settle in Canada, but maybe the person who wrote the original question would.
PS. I'm still drunk |
