I'm looking at doing a 4 month visa extension. Specifically what does immigration require when I go in. I hate to make the trip twice if I can avoid it.

A new contract paper. It really doesn't matter if it's written for twelve months or four, as once you hand in your alian card when you leave Korea then your contract is finished and your boss can contract with a new foreigner to replace you. |

Can do a search for the answers but the short of it is:
1. Passport
2. ARC
3. New Contract
4. Letter for Continued Sponsorship (Notorised and with the period of extension)
5. Schools Business Regd. Papers/Education Department Regd. (copies).
6. 30,000 won
If you have all these items and take them to Immigration you should have no problems. An "Extension of Sjourn Period" stamp is placed in your passport, and the back of the ARC is stamped with the extended time. It only takes a short time to have it all done if the paperwork is correct. Some Immigration Offices seem to require less, but if you cover all bases it can save multiple trips.
Make sure you keep a copy of the contract. Your boss should be able to get the majority of the paperwork organised for you in a day or so.
I prefer to do the Immigration trip myself, that way you have control over who has your passport.
Still crazy, still here. |
