Not exactly the most pressing question, but... I'm having trouble finding certain goods (groceries) in my area (neither Carrefour nor the massive Hyundai Dept. store here in Mokdong have what I'm after), and would like to see if Wal-Mart is any better. I know that there is a Wal-Mart somewhere in Kangnam; can anyone give me more specific directions? Thanks... |

I don't know about Kangnam... that one's news to me, but there is one in the Dogok area on the orange line. It's hell to find though. If you take the bus up the big hill from Dogok station to Lotte Department store, you can almost see the top of Wal-mart peeking out in the distance. It's a 5 to 7 minute walk to Wal-mart from Lotte Dept. Store. Not at all easy to find, but basically, after you reach the Lotte, if you keep going until you hit a main road, take a left and go up that hilly road, and Wal-Mart is on the left. It's not its own building.... it's down in the bottom of one. |

Wal-Mart is located one main road south of Tehran-ro (the main east-west road running through Kangnam) between Solleung and Yeoksam stations--closer to Solleung. Hope this helps.
You might want to check out Costco in Yangjae but it is not convenient to get to without a car.

My info is out of date by over a year, but I never found Wal-Mart to have anything particularly special in the way of foreign products/groceries. It felt like a Kim's Club but with 'Wal-Mart' written on the bags. I think it's bus 78-3 that takes you within a block of it. I thought the Carrefour in Bundang or the Dept store supermarkets were better.
For me Costco was definitely the place to go for groceries etc. You can catch a bus from Samsung sta. (just above Coex mall, southbound traffic side) or Yangjae sta. (near the pedestrian overpass, north side) that will bring you across the street from Costco. Memory is hazy, but I believe it was bus 11 or perhaps 10-3. |

The 11-3 goes to Costco from Sports Complex, past Samseong/COEX through Daechi/Dogok past Yangjae Station and then on to Costco and to Gwacheon after that.
The 97-2 starts at Nonhyeon Station, goes through Kangnam station and Yangjae station and then past Costco and to Gwacheon after that.
There is also a Costco up on northern line 7 somewhere. I think it's close to Sagajeong Station...or is it Sangbong...not exactly sure.
Good luck! |
