Has anyone been to any of the Costcos in Seoul? What they got? Is it worth the trip? Are any near the subway? I'm thinking of leading an expedition....

I thought it was worth the trip, but I lived relatively close to the Yangjae one. You still need to have a membership and they still sell bulk sizes, so it's best to go with a group (as you have indicated) and split on the larger items. Check the thread Wal-Mart in Seoul? for bus info. The closest station is Yangjae but it's not within walking distance. You could take a taxi but I'm not sure how to give directions, it's just past the Yangjae citizens woods and near the big the flower market. I've never been to it but there's another one (the first in Korea) somewhere near Yoido.

Check out http://www.costco.com there are maps to every location. I am going to the one out by yangpyoung, near Tangsan station. It's worth it, but the location I go to doesn't have a good bakery - I know yangjae is set up nicely in that area.

Definately worth the trip! I go to the one in Sanbong.........Line 7, Exit 2, 2 minute walk on the right. Great place for towels, sheets and pillows too.

I stock up on things like coffee, olive oil, etc..............end up only having to buy the stuff a couple of times a year.

I don't know about Costco, but you can find all of these things and a lot more at Haddon House, an international foods store near U.N. Village and a lot of Embassies. The nearest subway stop is Oksu station.

The place isn't very big, but it still has the most impressive supply of imported foods I've seen anywhere in Korea yet, beating out all the major department stores I know of.

Do you need a Korean membership? Or is a membership card from the states OK?

Costco memberships are valid worldwide, but you may [or may not] have to exchange your North American card for a Korean one. I had to exchange my Korean card for a North American one because it couldn't be read on the system- I don't know if this problem flows the other way.

you've got hanna market just outside of Hanaman-dong near the Harley Davidson dealership....

and then you've got the red door store(black market shop) in Itaewon....head down past Burger King...walk maybe 4 blocks, just keep looking for a store with a large window that has a red border, but a big shade in the window...u can see in the door and she has tons of things from the army base...but you've got to pay a little bit for it

We didn't have to exchange our CDN Costco cards for Korean ones. They just put a note on the card that they needed their override key - no problem.

Worth the trip - oh yeh!!!!!!!!!!

So what does getting membership involve? Can you apply at the store? Do you do it online? is it instant?
