So I've just been fired without pay or severance after the agreed end of my contract. First time in two years, eleven months and twenty six days.

see http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=5293 if you care to know the details

So what about y'all? Does this eventually happen to most people? Or am I just big fat sucker?

I don't mind so much. Reminds me of a Bizarre flow...

(if memory serves me right...)

I got no job, I'm broke, I've been cheated
girlfriend had a miscarriage - and I had to ...

I got "cheated"; however, it didn't hurt me financially, and I did see it coming, so I was expecting it.

My golden rule: You go do all the privates, drinking, extra classes, and dating coworkers that you could ever hope to do, but don't, and I mean absolutely never, accept staying at a place for a couple of extra days. It's not nearly as appreciated as one might think...

i stayed an extra month, during which time i told the director of my old school (in the most polite way possible) that if she tried to screw me on severance, i would take her fucking school down. things went smoothly.

zyz knows it was agreed i was supposed to finish on friday - last day of the session right? - but was asked to work two more days. I don't think refusing would have helped my situation much.

i used to work with this guy (who was kind of crazy), but gave me some sound advice. photocopy all the registers (for phone numbers).

and hand them a copy when they try to screw you.

My personal screwjob from a hakwon came in the form of them not listening when I repeatedly said that I had nothing stamped or written on either my passport or my immigration card when I had my visa extended to stay with them an extra month. I nearly missed a ferry to China, because some immigration officer at Incheon Ferry Terminal thought he had caught one of them wily, sneaky foreigners who manage to break all the rules, and I had just finished work like two days prior.

It's not hardly a dirty deed, but it did annoy the hell outta me. Combined with bang a G's story, yea. Don't stay longer, unless you like gimpy situations arising.

Haven't been cheated yet thank God, but have come close. I believe they key is to become your bosses good buddy. Without a friendly chummy relationship, the working relationship will be easily and guiltlessly violated.

I wonder if some people have been cheated more than once by different employers?

Arrow extrapolation Question

Seventy-eight percent of foreigners may expect to be cheated in Korea.
