How many university students do you teach? How many exams are you required to administer? Have you ever been asked to administer a conversation test to several hundred students within four days? (The tests should involve individualized questions and be able to differentiate the students into at least four distinct levels--low, low intermediate, high intermediate, high.)

Average of 10-12 per class. Sometimes 2 near exam time Very Happy
No exams for me (no, I don't teach in a uni hagwon)...

As far as a conversation test goes, just ask three questions to each student:

1) What's your name?

2) Do you have any hobbies?

3) Tell me about your family.

The last question should make seperation fairly easy. It doesn't take long to figure out where each student is. Don't worry too much--you don't have to make it complicated for yourself, because just a few questions will take enough time as it is.

Between 20-40 per class, this term three subjects with 2 sections each. Conversation classes are actually pretty easy to categorize: ask about family, hobbies, what they did / are doing last/next weekend, address and voila!

I once had a class with 83 students on the attendance list... many of them never showed up of course...

I write two tests, a mid and a final, and grade them. I can make them anyway I want- multiple choice is fine, but I am a b-itch so I make them all questions requiring a long answer, which makes for hellish grading, but it really determines if they KNOW the answer. All the tests for all my students occur at the same time, so i monitor one group and other professors monitor others. I also monitor other tests for their other classes, not just English.

I have about 160 students across 6 sections of freshmen. Class size ranges from 15 to over 30. Last fall I had sections with close to 40 in a small classroom, impossible for teaching conversation

Tests- we have to give a standardized midterm and final that a committee of foreign teachers write with allegedly input from the rest of us (the final this semester sure didn't have any other input) thats a pain in the rear end since we all have different ideas of what should be covered. We are also supposed to give an oral test which we do have complete freedom to write. We also control another 20% of the final grade "particpation" thats where I nail people for phone abuse et al.

rr that sounds like huge PIA, good luck
