Interesting article... thanks for posting it.
I moved it to general discussion as it is not really job-related. |

good article...ten years ago as a joke maybe.
but after that it says "though this is not as common in New York and Florida." and it never explains why! That is hilarious and lets us all on to make our own assumptions.
In my experience, in the media-broadcast field it has always been the Americans who were scientifically opposed to allowing accents outside of the mid-west ,"David Letterman type" creep into the mainstream of American media until the BBC showed them that it was okay and how to do it. And of course now, you can see how CNN has overdone their mixed ethnicity team to the point where it is comical.
What England said basically, is that not everyone in England speaks the same way, and then America realized it and changed their broadcast standards.
I guarantee you there are guys talking English in New York that have no idea about the difference between their accents and they probably sound like they are speaking Arabic, but they are speaking English...
It is not our problem if there are a bunch of dumb people in Korea and Japan that are behind the times, because there will always be enough students that are aware of the indifference and pay for a good education, rather than not study and look for an excuse to make thier resume look good. |
