beautiful..such a shame to think such beautiful creautures will be destroyed. Those brilliant markings, though, are are surely a sign of a venomous creature?

The Fire Belly Toad is TOXIC. Do NOT get the slime anywhere near your mouth and eyes. If you do, YOU WILL BE SORRY.

That's the frog (fire bellied) I described to middle schoolers who called it a 'silk frog' ('because of the beautiful colors). I found some in a beautiful natural stream area I got to by off-road motorbike. There's a stream, and a bamboo forest with old stone foundations for village and fields in a very tight little valley. Old village pines as well. Now abandoned about fifty years at least.

I've seen the little tree frog there, as well. Once I saw that little frog 'rock climbing' the white, tiled wall of a gas station washroom, attracted by the insects that were attracted by the light (it was night).

What about the introduced frog that eats all the other frogs. A big bullfrog with a white throat?

Where's this place? I usta find abandoned villages and farms while wandering about the mountains of Hawaii. I find such places so interesting.... Went to Mireuk-sa (in Chungju-shi) recently - it's a couple ruined temples. One has it's Buddha and other stone figures intact, the adjacent temple is just some stone blocks around a field. Farther up the valley is a stone pagoda in a meadow scattered with azalea bushes.

It's north of Ulsan. I've driven up the coast road and gone in dirt roads on the off-road motorbike. This road runs alongside valleys containing nothing human, just trees. The road curls around a cliff and gets to the old village site/bamboo forest. The foundations for the old village are stone, no mortar, and in the bamboo forest which has taken over. So you walk among the bamboo trees and see old foundations. The stream bank is strengthened with piled stone walls, the small farming terraces are supported by piled stone stabilizing walls. The stones have lichen; old looking.
So it's like a little 'lost valley'. Nature carrying on there.

I want to read your posts... I really do..

But that damn avatar...so hypnotic... Twisted Evil

It's nice to see some of the animals of Korea. Even hiking it always seemed so scorched...good to know there is an ecosystem limping along under all of that.
