I thought that meant we were too poor for them to have separate beds.

You were right. My parents were so rich they had separate houses.
Oh, wait- they were divorced. Embarassed

And once again in the 'good old days' divorce rates were much lower, and I'm sure the geezer who wrote the article in the OP would say that's a good thing. (I'd disagree and say that a divorce is better than suffering through an unhappy marriage).

There was a lot of hypocrisy about sex back then.

If the writer had been a more nuanced thinker, he could've said that there WAS pre-maritial and extra-marital sex in those days, but that society paid public homage to values of chastitiy and fidelity in order to maintain some recognized(if not fully observed) standard of behaviour.

However, the writer was most decidedly NOT a nuanced thinker, and so gave us a wholly imaginary idea of life in the good old days.

Are you suggesting that the whole point of the current war effort is to destroy Islam?

I have no idea what the current 'War on Terror' is about. Of course, if they were being honest, they would call it a 'War on Islamic Terror', but they can't, even though that's obviously what it is.

Funny thing is that in President Bush's "Axis of Evil" two of the three were and aren't Islamic. Iraq and North Korea.

Never thought I'd say this about anything from TUM's keyboard, but I will, anyway.

Very good point.
