Sorry if the subject got a few hearts racing out there, but I'm afraid the bulk of this post doesn't quite live up to the imaginations of a few of you (us!) out there.

I'm currently living and working in the Gulf, but will be moving to Seoul at the end of August. My fiancee, who is a Thai national, will be coming with me.

I just wonder if anyone else there has got a Thai wife / girlfriend in Korea, and how she is coping with living in there. My girlfriend went to high school in the States and has been working for Qatar Airways as an air stewardess, so I'm sure she'll be able to cope with life in Seoul, but I'd still be interested to hear of any of your experiences and thoughts on this subject.

Cheers, JR.

p.s - Also, is there a Thai community in Korea to speak of?

how long has she been flying? I'm sure everything's great with her, but the stories I've read about the flying lifestyle make me shudder at the thought of dating an airline stewardess Wink

No mate.. have no problems with dating an air stewardess, especially this one! I know of some that lead the kind of lifestyle you're talking about (partying, always away, dating different guys in different cities), but she's not into that at all. The Thai girls here, generally, don't go in for the party lifestyle. Most are in Qatar for the same reason we are.. to make money. The Morrocans... well they're a different kettle of fish!

Anyhow, she's been flying for about 2 years, but she's given it up now and is preparing herself for Korea. Any tips for her?

There is a medium sized population of factory workers from Thailand in the Seoul area. They probably aren't the same educational or social background as the friends she would ordinarily pick, but of course most of them are nice, friendly, sincere people (even if working sort of sh*tty jobs). There are some mail-order Thai brides married to Korean men. There is a very small population which centers around the embassy and a few Thai companies with offices in Korea.

I am not certain that she will enjoy it all that much. There are not many options for work for her. She will be pretty bored, for that I am certain. If she is traditional Thai she will hate it here. Majority of people smoke and drink and overal have a low level of morals compared to Traditional Thai life. Mostly depends on the class of family she was raised in. But if your wife drinks and is tollerant she will survive. But it might be difficult to just be the housewife type. Good luck
