Most universities these days are offering various forms of Distance Education for a wide variety of topics. Different Uni's call it different things - Distance Ed, online study, remote learning, or correspondence courses... etc.
I'm struggling with the whole "What do I want to be when I grow up?" question at the moment. I enjoy teaching in Korea, but I don't want to do it forever. I want to be my own boss (that's important to me) and hopefully someday soon I will.
Last year I was enrolled in an MBA course and I hated it! I dropped out. I hated what I was studying and I hated studying remotely. I'd be willing to give distance ed another go if it was something I truly loved and not something I felt that I needed to do to maintain some kind of employability.
Get onto Google and do some searches for universities and find some courses that really interest you.
If you are interested in becoming a "real" teacher, there is another thread about doing an online MA in TESOL but it may have related MA Ed info and some ideas for where to start looking for universities. Here's that link.

Not really. There were a few jobs for those who have a high level of Korean language ability, a postgraduate degree, who score well on intelligence tests, and who pass the interviews. It's very difficult.
You're going to have a very hard go of things in Toronto, at least, trying to shill your K ability on its own. You should be able to listen to Korean radio and translate without many problems. Even at that level, there isn't a lot of work to be had.
Some employers here in Canada were interested in my K exp, but seeing how I wasn't getting into teaching, it didn't do much good. The CBC thought it was worth something, however, which is where I work now. |

I second KOK,
There is only one Korean desk officer in DFAIT office in Ottawa and the number of Canadian commercial offers at the Canadian embassy in Seoul was reduced from 5 to 3 as of late, due to the sluggish trade between Korea and Canada. CSIS is mostly looking for Arabic and Chinese translators these days. |

Hey Seoul Newfie,
I'm doing a correspondence course right now from Mount Allison, so I'll have less courses to do when I go back to school for my next degree.
Most universities allow you to do this, and you can do a wide range of things: Bachelor level courses, Masters, and even PhD's (my girlfriend's mother was doing hers from a university in the US somewhere, so it can be done).
Anyway, you're not stuck. Athabasca University specializes in distance education, but it may only be Bachelors, I don't know.

| Athabasca University has MAs programs as well. But they are really expensive. Ouch! |
