Thanks for the tips. I'm going to go to the station tomorrow to try and buy my ticket. Do I have to go all the way to Seoul Station, or can I just go to my local Subway station and do it?

Edit: Do you have to have a Korean credit card to buy the tickets online or will a US card work? Alternatively, can I go to the local subway station to buy the KTX ticket, not just the membership card?

i don't live in seoul, so i don't know about buying KTX tickets at subway stops there. look and see if there is a subway stop near you that doubles as a train station. you can buy it there for sure.

i've only used my samsung card to purchase online. don't know if US cards will work.

good luck,

Went to Yongsan and bought my ticket today. It went fairly smoothly except there are no English directions on which line to go to, etc. So I got myself a number and stood there waiting for about 30 minutes until someone came up to me and asked what I was buying a ticket for and I explained I'm going to Busan, and yes, I know the train doesn't leave from here, but I want to go on Wednesday. He then directed me to stand in a line that took about two minutes.

I explained I wanted to go to Pusan by KTX on Wednesday in my broken Korean. To my surprise the woman spoke nearly flawless English (she humoured my attempt to communicate in Korean for a bit, which I appreciated).

Overall pretty painless... paid in cash for my first-class ticket... actually, I'm pretty excited about the trip. I guess it's been a while since I've been out of Seoul.

Thanks for all the pointers everyone.
