Well, I was all pleased with myself at booking a 7am flight to Jeju for Chusok, but know I realize that there is no way (except for a taking a taxi) that I can get to the airport that early! I can go into Seoul the night before, but I don't know that area at all, so I am looking for advice on where I could stay that is cheap and reasonably close to the airport...thanks in advance.

There are the usual yeokwans near the airport. I can't name one though. I stayed in one about 6 years ago though. There were a few around Seong Jeong subway station, one stop before the airport (and walking distance, although taking the subway up one stop is simply easier). Don't know now though, got to some around there still. Good luck. |

When you get to the airport the evening before you leave, look for a kiosk that says "tourist information". They have a list of nearby motels/hotels and prices. Most places have a pick-up/drop off service. Actually, staying aroung Gimpo is pretty cheap these days since the advent of the Incheon airport. About a year ago, I stayed in a 4-star hotel for 60,000! And I KNOW that there were lots of cheaper places nearby. |

There's some extra-cheesy love hotels next to Seoul Station that can be had around 25,000. I always stay in one of these and then take the subway to Gimpo (or the shuttle bus to Incheon).
I'm sure you know this already, but you can also fly to Jeju from many other more convenient locations-- Daejon, Cheongju, Busan etc..
