a major terrorist attack on US soil...

If I were looking to kick 'em while they are down, now is the perfect time....

the imcompetence of the feds this past week must have raised some eyebrows and got the gray cells churning

Except that it might unite the country again when a divided country is so much more fun. For them of course, that is.

I was thinking something along the same lines as you that it must be really tempting for Iran to just go all out and attack the US army right next door, but then again that would just bring in the rest of the world to help.

My thoughts exactly.

I imagine the people in charge of security for the 60th General Assembly of the United Nations on September 14-19 won't be sleeping again until the 20th.

I feel kind of strange responding to myself...but, to clarify:

I tend to think that an attack on the representatives of a majority of the world's countries would be counter-productive (although I am sure the security people are working overtime). However, I think an attack timed for the meeting would create chaos and would hope to perpetuate the idea of intra-American discord and impotence in the face of disaster.
