I remember a Politics lecture when doing my A's, and the lecturer told me that the way Americans speak now; their slang, drawl etc is probably the way we used to speak in the old days! Maybe late 1800's East-End London?
Im not claiming this to be true, just what i'v heard. There's a book by an author I cant remember, the books called 'Savage' - very Stephen Kingesque set around this time, and the English sounds very reminiscent of American slang now (in parts admittantly). When remember the author will post it...read if u 'av the chance; exceptional. |
