What are considered the top places, both popular and underground, to check out once in South Korea? Also, what is airfare like to China (Beijing) and South East Asia? |

If you're new to Korea then hit the usual suspects as per the KNTO website, every guidebook on SK, and every Foreigner in Korea blog.
It's a pretty standard list in your first year. |

I'd agree with that - just don't forget to to go to Pu Sok Sa - easily the nicest temple in Korea. |

Buy a Lonely Planet if you don't have one already. It has all the highlights. |

For me it was: Gangnam. Itaewon. Kyobo Bookstore. the PC-Bang. the delightfully unknown mountain Gwanak-san. the Department Store. Busan and its beaches. oh, and ANYWHERE OUTSIDE OF KOREA asap. |

How about Seoul???
If you don't live there, it's always fun to go there for a weekend a couple of times a year... Even so, by the end of that weekend, it's always good to get on that plane and get the hell out, too... |

Namiseom is a great place to go for a day. Beautiful, beautiful little place. You get there, and you can bungee jump or take the ferry to this picturesque little island. You can do many things there. You can rent a bike and ride around, which is great fun. They have ostriches, and just big fields to hang out in. It's really kind of a romantic place. |

Hong Kong, as you would imagine, is outstanding for book selection. I'm certain that Singapore is just as good if not better. Taipei is so-so, about the same as Korea, but I think the prices are better. I am assured that there are great bookstores in Bangkok but I have no first hand experience. |

Jeju island is a great tourist attraction.Lots of places to see there, including beaches.
Seoul is a great city with lots to offer:palaces, museums,Korean Folk Village, shopping centers, clubs.
Kyeong-ju with the Buddist temples is also nice. |
