I was visiting Australia a couple of years ago. A Fred Flintstonish customs guy sees me passing through customs and calls me over.

C.Guy: scuse me mate can i see ya pussport mate?
Me: Huh, yeah sure!
C.Guy: yor gonna need a noo pussport mate ya wont be able ta travel with this one!
Me: WTF(to myself) the prat had twisted my id page until the page separated.
"I'll sort it out with the embassy".
C.Guy: So, ya been here before, good eh, whaddaya recommend not missin ere mate?
Me: The last plane out. Ah so, where can I buy a cheap boomarang????? yeah, $2 range/summer sale know any?

Hooked up with my brother in law; borrowed some super glue(DO NOT USE TOO MUCH); problem solved; back in business. Cost of repair =one meat pie +can of Fosters.

Got questioned on the "stain" once by customs in malaysia.
C.Guy in Malaysia: what happened here?
Me: It's really hot today, man.
End of questioning.

Passport lasted 3 years like that.

I wouldn't recommend what I did to anybody though. I just didn't see the point in messing up a perfectly good job with all the trimmings.

I can understand the Aussie guy.... if your passport ID page can separate so easily, then you could switch the pics and glue it back together. Im not surprised he told you to get a new one.

If your passport went through the wash you MAY have probs getting through customs in certain countries.... I think if you take it to the embassy they will porganise to replace it for you.

Just out of curiosity, did you know that a passport is not your property? It is the property of the govt, and if anything happens to it you must tell the owner. Or some crap like that!

the pages aren't coming out but it looks pretty damn ratty...
the embassy will sort it out for me but I don't want to pay $60 for a new passport. I'm also worried about my korean visa because I don't want to pay for that again or the very expensive 2nd workplace addition.
