|
|
Another PC question from me I'm afraid.
I'm going to install a PC burner tomorrow (Samsung model), and wonder what I should back-up (or rather how to) on my PC?
Just incase anything goes bums-up, how can I save my important files/photos etc.
Thanks |

Well, to back up your drive you need to first install your cdrw -- kind of a catch-22.
Don't worry about it. Unless you spill coffee on it or keep the power connected and ram a screwdriver into it, the hard drive will remain autonomous. |

Unless you are swapping out an older Cd-R/W drive for a newer model, there's really nothing to back up. This sort of hardware addition shouldn't really affect anything; The device driver for the drive will be found automatically via Plug and Play, and any burning software installation is a seperate issue and wouldn't generally require any back up either.
The only thing you have to worry about is your EIDE configurations and they're really not difficult- you can't irreparably damage anything by getting the EIDE wrong- at the worst you'll have to fiddle with the cables and the jumpers a few times to get the optimum configuration. |

Agree with Beav - Go for it. You won't hurt anything.
Just make sure the black jumper clips are set properly. But even if they're not, nothing's going to explode - it just won't work. |

Tools you'll need: soldering iron, duct tape, pitching wedge, and a super high intensity spotlight. Enjoy. |

I picture Hank going to work everyday with a pitchfork and and a flamethrower...
I heard he's got a mysterious "668" tattooed on his person- he's the neighbour of the Beast. |

Actually that's not entirely true. When I installed mine - I needed an extra clip to make it a slave. I didn't have it, but tried anyhow. works just fine. |

cbinseoul: you're not a very "P.C" person. I hope it crashes and burns on you. |

Rapier - I couldn't give a monkey's what you think.
You lost it with that 'racist', 'ignorant', and 'arrogant' post about, What's your favourite nationality?
Nonsense!
See you still hold grudges or whatever then, eh?
Thanks for the advice all the same though. |
