I'm looking to teach in overseas / Korea for the first time and would like to get advice from a true panel of experts. I hope I'm not rehashing this for the umpteenth time.

If all goes well, I would like stay on with the same company or school that originally hires me. But if I agree to a contract extension, I believe my severence pay goes right out the window. Is it more lucrative to continually sign additional one year contracts?

What is the regular course of action if you would like to stay with a good school -- and still get one month's pay at the end of the contract period?

If you re-sign with the same employer, you are still entitled to get your severence and you may be entitled to some kind of pro-rata severance for each additional month you work, regardless of whether or not you complete a second contract.

Get a goverment position but even they can go broke are not be able to pay. If you are going to worry about severance pay all the time you are here then you won't have much of a time here. Six months after I came here for the second time the exchange rate dropped over fifty percent. Now for instance the economy is headed west again due to lack of markets and the goverment is saying that the won is too strong. Being an Australian I've watched the exchange rate dropping from pay to pay for a year now.
