|
|
My recruiter in Seoul has just told me immigration have denied me an E2 because the name on my passport does not match the name on my degree certificate!!!
My passport name reads, Joe Bloggs.
However, my Degree name reads, Joe John Bloggs!!!
I can't remember why but my University used my middle name on my degree.
I sent them a letter typed out by my local police captain confirming this is the same person. They still don't like it.
I sent them a copy of my birth certificate! They still don't like it.
The incredible thing is that they have issued me E2 visas, with no problems at all, each of the last two years with exactly the same documents!!!!! Nothing has changed!!!
So, I now have to fly on a tourist visa and do the bloody visa run!
I had to change my flights from one-way to a return as well. With 6 days to go!!
Nightmare!!!
Warning to all...........
Never under-estimate how picky Korean immigration can be. |

The recruiter says a letter from my university confirming my identity should do the trick.
I've to go to my 'Alma mater' today and get the letter and bring it with me to Korea. |

WTFOMGBBQ they probably suspect you're a New Zealander
I'd vouch for you, but that would blow my cover.
Actually, so far I haven't had E-2 problems, John, but a few times at the bank and other places there have been some issues. See, my full surname is far too long to fit into the surname section of any official Korean forms, so I have to use half of it. That often causes problems when I show ID and my surname looks different to the name on record.
Facts and logic seem to be fairly effective though. You'll get it sorted. |

Hahaha!
I'm not laghing at you Eamo, I'm laughing at the seemingly endless retardation of the Korean Immigration office.
"Well, it's the same guy in both pictures. We have his priors on record...Oh, wait! There's no middle name here. I dont want to try and explain this to the boss. Visa denied!" |

If immigration denied you an E2 Visa then you can't "just do the VISA run".
Immigration has to grant the "letter of VISA acceptance" in order for you to do the VISA run to Japan.
I wager you'll be working illegally until they have that (2-3 weeks) and then to send you to Japan. |

I think by visa run he means leave country and come back on tourist visa until things get worked out. Otherwise he will overstay his current visa and pay a big fine. |

If you are still on a current E2 visa then you should be able to get up to a one month tourist visa extension on the E2 in country. This should only require your passport. It might pay to send an inquire to ESL law also on the situation you are in to see what they say. |

That's what's going to happen. I've done it before so no worries. |

Same thing happened to me, just get the letter from the university stating that in fact ________ _________ _________, has in fact recieved the degree from our institution. Should have no problems after that.

My questions is, why doesn't your passport have your middle name?
Mine does.
In fact, I think everyone's does.
Did you ask by special request to have your middle name omitted on your passport?
I'm curious about this one.
Anyway, the cat's out of the bag now. You might as well change your moniker from "Eamo" to "Joe Bloggs" |
Actually, this is one of the most annoying things about this debacle.
2 months ago my old passport was expiring, so I had it re-newed. Filled in the form, with my middle name, and sent it off. A week later the passport office phones me and asks do I want my middle name on the new passport because the old one doesn't have it. I thought that, for the sake of continuity, I'd better have the new passport just like the old one, so, I said no, leave the middle name off. Arrghh!!!!
If I had of thought illogically then this crap would never have happened!!
Mmmmm....Joe Bloggs.. Good idea Cube... I'm thinking about it. |

the immigration office is getting really picky. basically these are the requirements:
1. resume (make sure you don't write any non-legal work experience )
2. passport copy
3. signed contract
4. actual diploma or a copy notarized by the korean consulate
5. sealed transcripts in an official university envelope
*make sure your name is the same on all of the above documents |

So what do you do if your name is NOT the same on all of your documents? I'm thinking of women who would have name changes for reasons of marriage or divorce. Do you need to submit marriage license, divorce papers, court papers, etc. if you have changed your marital status and/or name since you graduated from university? Would Immigration know what to DO with these documents? |
