Does Korea do the same checks for a work visa as Taiwan? In Taiwan I hear they take blood/urine/stool tests for various things....I am assuming diseases, drugs, etc....
Anyone experience this in Korea? Just curious. |

Yes, in Taiwan, they submit you to a strange battery of medical tests.
- they demand Feces and Urine samples (which is hard when you didn't eat the day before!)
- Blood test
- Eye Chart test
They test for the "Heps" (A,B,C), STD's (includiung HIV), and a host of bacterial and viral infections.
In Korea they do not, which is strange because Koreans are more afraid of foreigners than Taiwanese are. |

yes, in taiwan part of the work visa application is a medical exam which costs about sixty bucks canadian done at the hospital. it includes a chest x-ray looking for tuberculosis (by the way, a foreign teacher who had been in taiwan a year was told he had 'metal in his lungs'. it was particles of metal from car exhaust/pollution, which doesn't go away, so people wear masks driving their scooters)(then there was this foreign teacher, a young woman, who got back to canada after a year in taipei and the doctor in canada, looking at a chest x-ray said 'you've got to stop smoking' (she didn't smoke)). they take urine, blood, sometimes feces(but they discontinued that, overkill i guess). in the urine the form has a section for 'marijuana', 'amphetamine', 'opiate' with readings in micrograms. the blood results have section for 'hiv' and hepatitis. every year, sometimes every six months, another medical. when i was getting examined i realized that i've never had a medical check for a korean job. |
