If you had a weekend to kill in either city ~ which one would it be?
I am getting tickets this week, and can't make my mind up!
Looking for good nightlife, and seeing some interesting things while i'm at it... money is an option!!!
Any advise out there?
cheers!

Makes no difference, they're both equally outrageously expensive.
For a nightlife you'll be more welcome in, go to Tokyo and then visit the district known as Roppongi, best nightlife for a foreigner. |

Osaka for sure - less hectic if it's a break you need. Hiroshima is lovely too. Still good bars and nightlife, but the option of a quiet time is there too.
Tokyo is mental. |

I've been to Kanagi, crackpipe. Tokyo holds NOTHING for me. |

Here's an excellent Japan site with info and links:
Japan Zone
Pick up a copy of Metropolis Magazine at an airport magazine shop.
You can reserve accomodation on line for some places. Both sources have most info about Tokyo. |

I would go to Osaka and then head to Kyoto (Nara??). There's the Fuji ann Guesthouse. Pretty good place- dorm, but you can rent a bike and meet lots of interesting people.
The thing with Tokyo is that Nara is a bit far from the center and may be a tad expensive. Either way, have fun!

If you go to Tokyo, I highly recommend the Taito Ryokan. I stayed there for 4 days at the end of March this year. Cheapest place to stay in Tokyo (only 3000 per night), close to a subway station, nice neighborhood. The owner speaks great English and is very helpful with suggestions about what to do and see in Tokyo. I can't recommend this place enough. |

I would suggest Fukioka.
Very nice city ... so quiet I thought I was going deaf.
Seriously... If you want to relax not party in big town Tokyo or Osaka ...
BTW: There is a Irish Pub in Fukioka which has Guinness CHEAPER the Seoul and better fish and chips too ..... |

The 'tour club' is a another fantastic guesthouse in Kyoto. Very clean, very friendly stuff, I can't recommend it highly enough (book ahead though, it is pretty popular). |

Roppongi in Tokyo hands down.
Can't tell you why, that would be giving too much information away. |
