|
|
I find a lot of words in Korean just sound better than their english counterparts. Some don't, too.
MEGCHU-
The word just sounds cool. 'Beer' just feels tired and worn. Megchu is hip.
DAMBAE-
Another cool word to add to the smoke-f@g-dart strain of cigarette slang.
JUSEYO-
The ever popular 'please give me'.
PEE-
Rain? hehehe. Ah, the different applications one could use. Nothing sounds better than getting caught in a torrential downpour of pee.
BBAHNG-
I love bread all the more now.
MEECHASOYO-
'Are you crazy/psycho?' just sounds better in Korean.
And the swearing sounds cool, too. JEHSOO-UPTA! SHEE-BAHL!
Words that I'll stick with English:
WATER-
Mool? (yawns)
COKE/POP-
Cola? I've always detested that word.
CHIPS-
Potato Cheeep? What the hell is that?
I'm sure there's a lot more, but this is what came out of my head first. Some of you others are more esteemed with their Korean language-ee than I, to be able to add a few more. |

Isn't that a bastardization of the French or Portugeuse word for bread. It must be a foreign word because it is the same in Japanese.
Anyone? |

Okay
"Pee" is blood, not rain. "Bee" is rain.
The sound of bread hitting the floor in Korea...BBBBBBBBBHANG!
I never heard "crazy" used with "yo" before...
I got some for but in reverse:
"Wayah yoo pluhm?"
"I yam eenglishee no!"
"hoe-ka-ee!"
"tee-cha? Puk yoo!" |

Thanks for straying away from the intent of my post by correcting the romanized spelling of Korean words. Questing to feel important on this board is so over-rated. Maybe I should have known better than to post this when the grammar police were online. |

Romanization sometimes falls short. But
shiwonhada- much more versatile than its translation as "cool."
hwanasseo?/bijyeoseo? - "Are you angry?" Why ask? It's usually obvious.
Wae? - "Why?" But much more useful and versatile in Korean. |

I like the words that repeat themselves:
은은하다 -- having a subtle scent
뚱뚱하다 -- being fat

I dig those, too. They're so easy to remember, too. I wish I could read yours, though. It looks like you forgot to change the Encoding to "Korean" before you typed it, katydid.
My romanization is one of my own design, and reads and sounds right to me. Please don't bother to "correct" it. I'd type it in the original hangeul if I could from the computer I'm on.
How about:
aw-ma-aw-ma hada - tremendous
ddoak-ddoak hada - smart
bing-geul-bing-geul - the sound effect for something spinning
teun-teun hada - tough, sturdy
shing-shing hada - fresh
sahng-sahng hada - imagine |

It is a Japanese influence, I think. My grandma used a lot of Japanese words.
Zhubong for trousers.
Bento for lunch box.
Shweta for sweaters. |

It is Lebanese or possibly Turkish, I think. Anyhow, it is the same word from which we get 'bun'. |

You bunch of miscreants!
B(b)ang, for bread, is lifted straight from the French "Pain" (Pronounced "Pan").
Otherwise I'll shut up.
Gaoul is pretty good, for "Mirror", 'cause I usually look like one in it.
