This exchange I had with the butcher in the rear of my local supermarket was unforgettable for me. As I'm walking by his counter, he's waving wildly for me to come over
Butcher: I speak englishee, you speak to me?
Me: (with extreme reluctance) OK, hi, how are you?
Butcher: See you later, how are you?
Me: see you later.
I immediately walked away while the guy has this mile wide smile on his face for having impressed me with his speaking abilities.
The only one that rivals that is the lady at my gym who, when she sees me leaving after a workout always takes the time to say "see you tomato", bless her little heart. |

Today, I was standing outside the touristy tunnel walkway in Tongyeong, waiting for a Korean friend, when two little girls walk up giggling. One of them musters up the courage to say hello, to ask what my name is, where I live, and how old I am. I answered all her questions, but I forgot to ask her questions because I had just come out of a moment of deep thought. The amazingly correct-speaking 6-ish year old wanted to talk more, so, after a pause, she lifted up her purse and asked: "How much does it cost?" |
