This will move to the FAQ section. Does anyone have anything to add? |

I am planning on doing my marriage paperwork this week at the US embassy. I already set the appointment but just want to double check with anyone who has done the process before.
I need:
US Passport
Affidavit of eligibility of marriage (one copy)
Report and certificate of marriage (three copies)
Proof of Identity (they said alien card would work, anyone else use it? as I don't have my birth certificate)
$150
She needs:
Family relationship certificate (one in English, one in Korean)
Single status certificate (one in English, one in Korean)
Korean ID card
Is that it?
Do I need to bring anyone for witnesses? |

Any British people who just got married know if this is what a Brit has to do to get married?

I am Brit, fiance is Korean.
As I understand it, she needs three copies of her family register, one of which should be translated and notarised by a lawyer. I need passport. I have to fill out some documents that I can download from the internet and then go to the embassy.
They can then start the process and what they have to do takes 25 mins. I then need to go, or she needs to go with those stamped documents to her local gu office, but you can do it at the Jongno gu as they do everyones.
She has to get some more stamps and stuff in there. I then need to go back to the english embassy and they finish off their stamping and forms.
Possible to do it in a day and it costs about 250,000 but that is variable.
That's what I know. May be wrong, may be right, but I am going to go through the paperwork in the next month or so.
Good luck.
Did you tell her there is a wedding yet?? |

Hi, quick question, hopefully someone who went throught this recently will answer for me.
For the Korean national at the foreigners embassy they need the following documents alone with their passport / id card:
1. Birth certificate & Family Relation certificate ( 기본증명서 + 가족관계증명서 );
- translated in English
2. Certificate of being unmarried( 혼인관계증명서 );
- translated in English
I know the family register takes a very short time (almost straight away) to get and costs about 1000 won but what about the certificate of being unmarried? Is that equally as quick as what does it cost?
Do these then just need to be translated and notarised or apostilled as well?
Where did people get them translated? Any recommendations.
Thanks. |

I am planning on getting married in July and then getting an f-2/f-6 visa, and after looking over the US embassy site and some other sites, it looks like this should be how it goes... Am I right about this?
1. "Affidavit of Eligibility of Marriage" form notarized (need appointment, passport, id, form, $50) (just me) <Seoul>
2. Gu-cheong with documents below (me and fiance) <residing city>
me
*Proof of US citizenship:
*A completed Affidavit of Eligibility for Marriage and translation
*Proof of identity:
*Proof of termination of any prior marriage
fiance:
*Family Relationship Certificate (가족관계 증명서):
*Marriage/Single Status Certificate (혼인관계 증명서):
*Valid Korean identification card (주민등록증)
*Name stamp (도장) and parents' name stamps
3. Get married
4. Get "Verification of registration of marriage" notarized <residing city>
5. Get "Verification of registration of marriage" authenticated (need appointment, passport, id, $50) <Seoul>
6. Take f-2/f-6 documents to immigration office <residing city>
Am I missing anything? Thanks for your help!! |
