I feel my replies would be enriched by adding the odd picture. What's the procedure? Any help?

Thanks for asking- I want to know also. I feel so ignorant when it comes to technology. As least you have figured out the avatar thing. I haven't even tried yet.

OK...

So I'm not eactly sure I'm making the world a better place by telling you this...
But who cares.

Go to a pic you want to post. Right click on properties. It'll give you the URL for the pic. Highlight it. Go to edit, click on Copy. In your message where you want the pic to go click on the icon on Daves that says Img. Now paste the URL there and click on Img again.
Click on preview to make sure it worked before you click submit.
PM me if you want any more info.

*edit* And you can't get pics from your e-mail address. You have to put them on a photo web host. Yahoo and some other websites have free ones you can use.

The steps for avatars are similar.
Get the URL of the pic from the properties (make sure it's a small pic or shrink it)
Go to profile. At the bottom it says something like "Insert URL for link to avatar". Put the URL for the pic in there.
Click ok.

It's always a good idea to preview your messages when using images, too. Sometimes things don't come out quite right so it helps to check.

You can also attach a weblink to a picture as well by combing the [ url ] and [ img ] tags. Like this:

[ url=http://times.hankooki.com/ ][ img ]http://img.hankooki.com/times/kt_logo.gif[ /img ][ /url ]

Lots of BBCode tips here, too.

Hosting images on free providers like yahoo or geocities does not work. Your image will show up for a maximum of one hour and then you will get a little red x. free hosts don't like to do that. If you have a paid service anything goes.

the only free remote linking service that I know of is http://villagephotos.com

hope this helps

Thanks for the tips and leads. It seems to be working now. Sometimes a picture can paint a thousand words.

Re other images:
So does the 'hosting images' info relate mainly to photos and such? ie. an image in my pictures file wouldn't have a URL so it must come from a host site. Am I on the right track there?

Yeah, the photo is correct- it is actually diagonal, to capture both the cathedral and the ruins.

See, I got my avatar straight.
