I was informed today by my supervisor that in light of recent events, the Seoul public school board has decided to run checks on all current foreign employees. What's even stranger, the letter she showed me mentioned that CPN actually harmed KOREAN students??? Is there something I'm missing here?
So basically, even though they processed my transcripts and verified my degree 6 months ago, I have to submit all the paperwork again.
It's not a big hassle for me, I have all the proper documents, including extra transcripts. It's the principle of the matter that bugs me. A properly documented Canadian gets busted for unrelated crimes, a Korean women gets popped for faking a degree, and I have to submit my stuff again.
I'm curious...has anyone else been fed this load of hooey from their supervisors because of this? |

You should submit the letter to the media or ask your boss for proof. Also, you should demand that all Korean employees get their credentials and background verified as well. |

I hope your first response was, "What did you do with the ones I already submitted? Didn't Immigration check them like they were supposed to?" |

SS, are you SMOE? I have yet to hear about this, nor have my friends in SMOE heard anything like this.
I agree with Yata. "Oh, my degree copies and transcripts? Those at the immigration office. You want to see them again? Contact immi." |

how is verifying your degree going to prove you're not a pedophile? A request for a background check would be more reasonable |

You seem to think they're doing this to actually find something out. They're only doing it to make it look like they give a shit. All about public image and saving face. |

That's exactly what I was thinking. Where's mindmetoo's logic thread? |

I just posted a thread about this before noticing yours. I'm in Changwon and I too have to resubmit my degree and get another police check. My co-teacher didn't mention CPN, the reasons given to me were concern over foreigners with fake degrees, and foreigners using drugs. |

What if everyone just told them no? I mean, you're already hired, have a contract, etc. Are they going to fire you? |

My coteacher came and asked me for a copy of my degree. I said, check the 행정실 b/c i gave it to them last year when i started here. Low and behold, they had it.
Then later this morning she comes and asks me to verifiy my degree on my college website. So, i went to the page for alumni where you can update your address, contact info, marital status, etc and showed her that they had my address on file. That seemed to be enough.
They can't run a decent degree check in this country on themselves or foreigners. |

Just been told by my co that I too will need to provide evidence of my history. I already submitted a Police Record check when I enrolled, but for some reason, they now want to see my academic record i.e. they want to check that there is some sort of record of my studying at university. Not sure if there is any online record showing that I attended my Uni or not but I very much doubt it.
My co wants to do this this afternoon so I'll report back a little later. |

Brought my original diploma in today, she made a copy and checked the transcripts I provided during my interview. That seemed to be enough.
However, I'll bet there are a BUNCH of folks out there shaking in their boots because of this sudden crackdown. |
