The whitest beach I was ever on in Thailand (and in photos it looks like snow) was on Raya - sometimes spelled Racha- island about a 90 minutes ferry ride from Phuket. It also has swimming pool clear water and colourful fish. But to spend more than a few days there you have to really be only looking for beach time and solitude. I did it for 4 days and was happy to get back to Phuket. Other than white beaches you could find a long list of gorgeous beaches in south Thailand.

Grand Beach just north of Winnipeg has white sand. And in the winter it has white snow.

Seriously it has some of the softest whitest sand I have ever seen.

The beaches are nicer on Perhentian Besar but the accommodation is much cheaper on Perhentian Kecil. It's only a short boat taxi away (5 minutes).

Totally agree with those touting the Perhentians. More discussion of the Perhentians in this thread.

The choice between the two islands really comes down to what you want. The smaller island is more social/party-type (though still very quiet - I doubt it ever gets rowdy), while the larger one is more for couples or families.

Here's a bit of the Perhentians (Besar):

No, it didn't get rowdy there on the small island but there were certainly more places to grab a pint than lonely planet indicated. (And cheaper pints too). They weren't open all night or anything like that.

I bought a 24 case of Tiger beer and brought it over on the boat.
No problems except keeping it cold - had to ask the hotel for ice, which they kindly gave us.

Great pictures TECO - your images weren't working as references from this page (I think the photo server didn't allow it) so I downloaded them and put them on my server, and now we can see them. Hope you don't mind.

Awesome place. I really want to go back.

If it's perfect sand you're after, there is no better place than Koh Samet in Thailand. Sand like sugar, pristine beaches, warm and clear water; a perfect place for a honeymoon or just an R&R.
