|
|
I want to return to Korea, even if only as a tourist.
The last time I was there, I was working and something bad happened with my phone contract.
I left Korea after 1 year and did not transfer my contract or buy it out. I was planning on coming back to Korea, so I kept the phone and planned to use it again upon returning. However, I did not go back as plans changed. My phone was also stolen while I was traveling.
Can I get blacklisted in Korea? Will I be fined? I am not sure how it will work. The person that stole my phone...can they still use it and acquire new charges or did they have to do everything new by scratch. I had a passcode on it. |

No you won't be blacklisted or barred from entering Korea. You just won't be able to get a phone from that company. |

No worries, you're only the 10,000th foreigner to do that. |

Korea has bigger problems and none of them involve the Waygook. |

any how about getting another E2? Any reason I could not get another one?
By the way, my last E2 and ARC card were on a different passport. I recently had to renew mine. Will my old info be on my new passport or not?
Thanks |

New ARC # = probably no problems with a new phone, but you may be tracked down to pay the balance of what was left on the one you had.
It won't stop you from getting a visa in any case, worst case scenario you will be stuck with 2,000$ in fines if the phone was new and you left really early in the contract. |

$2000 in fines? Ouch.
So, if you get a new passport, you get a new ARC #?
I have no gathered that I will likely have no problems getting an E2.
And if I visit Korea just as a tourist, I will have no problems and will not be stopped by immigration and faced with fines and/or penalties, correct?
Thanks for helping. |

Why didn't you pay it off before you left the previous time? |

Personal peev of mine is expats leaving with unpaid depts.
Specially medical bills and such~ that really gives expats a
Black eye.
But to address the post~ you WILL have pay your previous
Depts if you wish to register or as a resident of korea.
New passport? No matter. New ARC? No matter. You
Will be issued the exact same residency number with all
All your previous...'misdeeds' on record.
Personal example:
I last paid my vehicle registration tax in say~~ august. Sold
My car to the junkheap in october and left korea. I returned
A year later, new arc (same number), new town, new job. I STILL received
A letter saying i owed something like 25,000 won in vehicle
Registration tax for those two months of ownership. Though
That WAS a government dept which we know how well records
Are kept, but private companies I'm certain are no less
Deligent. |

Agreed.
It's people like the OP who give foreigners a bad name in Korea. Grow up dude, would you do that in your home country? Probably not. |

No one is going to track you down as a tourist, but if you try and get a new phone you will likely be hit w/ fees that you left unpaid when you left before.
Like I said, 2,000$ is about the worst case scenario.
If you had a new phone on a 2 year contract and left 3-6 months into the contract we can assume there was about 800+$ left on the phone, you will be paying that for sure. If you did not cancel the contract when you left you will be paying for each month that they did not shut off the phone, or maybe another 6-8 months + fees. |

My phone was stolen too, and I want to go back to Korea so I am kind of worried if I have a hefty bill to pay. But it happened like this. I had been in Korea for 13 months, and had had the phone for most of that time. It was stolen-or lost-in Incheon Airport. I don't think I would be allowed a phone from that company again. But if I had to pay a bill, would it be a large one? |
