Yup, "noob gains" coupled with muscle memory and knowledge - can lead to some good initial growth.
Good on ya. |

I was a person used to going to really decent gyms back home, heating, air conditioned, well stocked, top of the line cardio machines, clean facilites, etc. Then I came here and most of your local run of the mill gyms charged the same price or maybe a bit more per month than back home and they sucked. Most didn't have any air con. Some did, but either didn't turn it on or they would turn it on and open all the damn windows. Cardio looked like something cheap and flimsy bought at Wal Mart for 99 bucks. Equipment far and few in between. Dumbells have only one set. Facilities often dirty. Bathrooms gross. Some Korean dude never taught the thought of other people but himself, hogs those one set of weights and even when he's taking a break in between sets whines if you take it to do a set cause apparently the culture of sharing isn't really about sharing. Lame ettiquite at the place and they are just awful.
If you're here long term and have a larger place, buy a nice piece of cardio equipment online for maybe 2 million won or more. Spend 500 bucks stocking up on all kinds of free weights and avoid the crap. Be happy working at home.
Good routing.
Bill Phillips book, Used that as a guide as I needed a very simple workout using very little fancy equipment. Suppliment our excercise with hiking in winter and biking or jogging in spring and fall. The four months of the year from the end of May to the end of Sept is too hot to do anything but sit under the air con. All the better if you set up your own pad as the ultimate fitness center. (That and you don't have to deal with stupid habits.)
Some larger cities might have one good gym with good fitness facilities, air con, clean facilities, and a different class of people with better manners. But, it will cost you. |

Yeah, it's take me years here to find a gym that I would call good/great.
They're few and far between. |

For those that care, chicken is at a decently low price nowadays... and it seems to be staying there.
500g of boneless/skinless fresh breasts are only 4,500won at Emart. |

'Kimchi helped me win the gold'
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/sports/2014/09/207_165370.html
INCHEON
A North Korean female weightlifter said Sunday that kimchi was the secret behind her world record, a less-sycophantic answer than that from her colleagues who credited their success to dictator Kim Jung-un.
"We eat no special food, just kimchi," said Kim Un-ju, 24, who broke the world record with a 164 kg clean and jerk in the 75 kg division last Thursday. |

"It's as satisfying to me as, uh, coming is, you know? As, ah, having sex with a woman and coming. And so can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like, uh, getting the feeling of coming in a gym, I'm getting the feeling of coming at home, I'm getting the feeling of coming backstage when I pump up, when I pose in front of 5,000 people, I get the same feeling, so I am coming day and night. I mean, it's terrific. Right? So you know, I am in heaven."

Wow, anybody else's gym super packed this month?
I didn't think Koreans went in for New Years resolutions. |

They all offer huge discounts in Dec-Jan. My gym is the same though, but I go around noon. Can't stand the gym crowd after five. |

Bumping this thread because I need to find some whey protein hydrolysate in Korea that isn't chocolate flavored. After reading about the hassles people are having with international deliveries, I am just going to buy domestic.
Any recommendations? I want just plain high protein powder. The flavoured stuff makes me gag. |
