It isn't really.

The winter was long and sucked balls. Things are expensive. If you don't have a good income you won't live well. True anywhere I suppose.

There are too many rules. Don't shoot people you dislike, stop that stealing, etc.

I got used to living in Asia though. It was easier in some ways.

Conclusion: Canada is not terrible, but exactly half as good as people say.

Seems like most Canadians are nationalists, which is on par with racism to me. They also seem to think the rest of the world cares a lot about what happens in their country for some bizarre reason. A lot of those Canuckleheads also seem terribly insecure.

Only people I've ever heard say they want to go to Canada have been Asians in Asia. Which makes sense because they know jack-all about the West; why go to a second-rate France/USA when you can just, well, go to France or the States?

PROS:

- Good looking girls (ever been to Montreal? Hot damn! Those gals out west aren't bad either if you can look past the cowboy hats)

- Beautiful land. Mountains, oceans, lakes... what do you want? We've got it.

- The health care goes without saying

- Relatively cheap tuition costs

- Marijuana is cheap, homegrown, and practically legal. If you're into that.

- Full nude strippers. If you're into that.

-Casinos. If you're into that.

CONS:

- cons... ervatives

- Rising cost of living. New graduates in cities like Vancouver and Toronto need to hope to win a lottery to ever buy their own house

- Extreme cold covering most of this country for most of the year. There are ways around it though. If this is really a deal breaker for you, move close to the coast and you won't even need to see snow if you don't want to.

- Expensive drinks and smokes. Again, if you're into that.

I don't really get why people say that about Montreal, I go there often, and they're honestly no more good-looking than elsewhere. However, I DO generally find the personality of Quebec gals a lot more appealing. They seem to have great attitudes / senses of humour. Which inherently makes them more attractive. So, better looking? No. More attractive? I'd say yes.

You can find that anywhere (aside from...I don't know...Belgium? dikes aren't really my thing [ Very Happy ]), we by no means have a monopoly.

........

- Relatively cheap tuition costs
1. Compared to the States (but theirs is practically criminal).
2. Within your own province.
3. It's still expensive as shit for international students.

...........

CONS:
..........
Bears.

No slavery. No civil war. No violent revolution. Attained independence peacefully. Strict gun laws. No ghettos. Clean streets. Safe cities. Universal health care. Human rights. Very few right-wing nutjobs. Too politically correct. Too expensive. Too big. Too cold.

Overall, the States could have a worse neighbor. Neither side has even a single soldier along its border. Contrast that with the headache that is the US-Mexican border.

Then again, they inflicted Justin Beiber on us. And Celine Dion. Confused

Invade now.

Canadians are more honest, or maybe, at least less dishonest.

The Royal Canadian Bank had to set up its own brokerage of U.S. stocks because they discovered that U.S. financial firms were in essence "skimming" off of stock purchases and sales using high speed computers. So, instead of cheating their customers, they found a way to provide a more honest price for stock trading.

As I understand it, in the U.S. high speed computers, hooked to U.S. financial company computers, know when you are about to make a financial transaction and then either purchase the stock first at a lower price or sell the stock at a higher price than you. Thus, increasing costs in addition to any other fees you might have paid, and of course the financial companies pocket additional profits.

Supposedly, this is legal in the U.S., though some say it is akin to insider trading.

At least Canadian banks don't cheat you in this fashion.

Canada's pretty much like every other country: some things are bad, some things are good.

Though Canada does have by far the rudest government employees and flight attendants in the world. They work barely any hours for decent pay, get huge holidays and benefits and yet moan constantly about their soul-sucking jobs and universally act like you're wasting their time if you ask them to do anything for you, even if doing that thing is their job. Not to mention horsepucky like the $300 it costs me to renew my passport abroad, which I'm sure largely goes towards some clerk's overblown salary. Screw you Canadian government employees!
