I got an 'International' MasterCard from Nonghyup Bank.

To get one you must have been working in Korea for at least three months and make a minimum of 2 mill./mo. I had to provide: a copy of my teacher certification from the county school district, and a copy of my pay records. It took five days to process the application.

I got a visa from samsung and KEB. Both no deposit and no probs. However, I am a 'visiting prof'.

As for whoever asked about having a credit card in your home country, if you are canadian you are best to get rid of it becuase revenue canada uses that as one of the ways of determining your residency. If you are a canadain residt then you pay canadian imcome tax on Korean Earnings even if you dont step foot in canda for a year, if not a resident never any tax. I still have my cibc and vancity visa and BC drivers licence, however as I've been out for 7 years and am married to a Korean, my uncle (an accountant) said I would be fine. But for those in less clear situations be careful.
