Hi everyone,
I would like to start teaching private lessons exclusively. From what I have read so far, I will need a business license if I make more than 12 million won in a year, which I intend to do. I have been looking for information on this for a while and have found some, but I am still confused.
According to this PDF from a few years ago, starting a private business requires an investment of "not less than KRW 100 million."

I don't have that kind of money, and don't know what I would use it for anyway. How can I go about this without working through a private agent, who will want a cut of my fee?
I plan to teach adults, so I do not need a tutoring license. |

My way around it when I lived in Korea was to set up a small company and act as a cultural consultant. |

You need 2 things.
1) a license from your Education Office. They will tell you how muc you can charge or what age groups. (12k won/hr 8-18 year olds, no set rate for below or over)
2) A business number from your city chamber of commerce type place. Costs like 10k won.
That investment is for people from outside the country. You are an F6 and already a resident of Korea. |

Thanks Coltronator. That sounds much easier. |

Be aware that your proper registration also means registering with your local tax office=business number. They will expect you to file every year. Even if you close your study room, they will still be bothering you afterwards. Cancel them all at the same time. Word to the wise. |
