Hello there!

I need to get a student visa. Is there anything I need to be aware of that's not posted on the Aussie website?

From memory I think that you have to be accepted by a school before you can get one and then have a chest x-ray with your application. I could be wrong on this though. Have you checked the FAQs??

Hammer:

I am going to Australia to study in March.

This year, I've been studying through distance/on-line format but am going to finish in Australia.

I was told by university of southern queensland that I needed a "Letter of Offer" from USQ to present to Aus. Immigration when applying for my student visa.

Where are you studying ?

Hammer be advised:

1. Passport
2. 319,000won
3. Form 157A (specify your subclass)
4. Statement of why you want to study in Australia.
5. Confirmation of Enrolment
6. Diploma
7. Medical check up

Take these seven items to the Australian embassy in Seoul and you should be set.

Happy New Year!

$400 Australian for the Student VISA Shocked

Also, I was advised yesterday that I could not apply for a student visa "In person" here in Taipei.

They are now refusing to accept "Paper" applications for student visas which now must be lodged "On-Line" through their web site.

Same in Seoul?

A little off the topic, but by doing this will you get a non-distance degree when you finish, same as if you'd studied in Oz the whole time?

The academic representative I have dealt with tells me that the school does not distinguish between a "distance" degree and an "on-camus" degree. They are considered to be the same degree.

In fact, she told me that transcripts won't indicate which format the courses were taken.

Neither will the diploma.

In Canada, most transcripts indicate which courses were on-campus and which were through distance format.

TECO,

I tried to apply online, but am not able to because the degree is subclass 574. Did you have any problems applying online?

I am getting no responses regarding accomodation. How about you?

Hammer:

I went down to the "embassy" here in taiwan and was told that I have to apply on-line for a student visa.

I haven't applied yet because I haven't received my COE from USQ.

The sub-class is 574. That assessment 1.
I'm Canadian, and that's also assessment 1.

I think Americans fall under assessment 2 for sub-class 574. But I don't think that should matter. I could and may be wrong so give them a call or somthething.

Also, Hammer, you need your COE number to apply on-line. (Confirmation of Enrollment). And you can only get this once you have paid all your tuition for the semester in full.

Yea, it ain't cheap or easy to get into Australia, but once you get there, it's all good. I studied, travelled, and lived there for one year, and it came out to about $17,000 U.S....factor out education expenses and it was like nine grand. That's nothin'.

Sydney'll be more expensive than where I was, though.
