I was just out with a Korean woman I work with. While we were out, she got a text message and asked me if I knew ************. I said that I didn't and asked why?

She told me she just received an SMS from a site she belongs to (Anti-English Spectrum?) notifying her that a Uni teacher in Daejeon had been busted for some sort of sexual crime. She didn't have the vocabulary to explain anything beyond "sexual", so I don't know if it was harassment or assault or whatever.

I wonder if we'll hear about it in the press.

Wow, really? Have her send you think link, even if it's in Korean.

There's no link, at least not from my friend. She got it as a text message, so I guess she is a member of some site that sends out news that way.

She didn't say the name of the site, but it sounded like Anti-English Spectrum to me.

Anyway, all I know is she asked me if I knew a teacher that worked at a Uni in Daejeon (that shall remain unnamed). She went on to say that he was in trouble for something "sexual". She couldn't find the English word for the second part of the phrase. She got the message right before she dropped me off, so we didn't talk about it for more than a minute. That's all I know.

Considering the anti-English Spectrum folks (and folks like them) consider basically anything we do to be a crime, I'll hold judgement until I see something more official. In their books, merely touching a Korean woman is a crime against their entire country.

Do you remember the Korean word?

Wow. These people send out text messages when a teacher is accused of something improper. These people really have a hard on for foreigners.

If so, it's sorta creepy. Like Invasion of the Body Snatchers or something (even though we technically are the invaders. You know what I mean..)

For now, I'll take the crime with a grain of salt. I've heard two different stories where a pretty college student wanted an "A" from the foreign professor. Otherwise, she'd make up a lie about how he approached her for sex/grabbed her/tried to kiss her/whatever.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sympathetic to women who get harassed by men, but I get tired of hearing how foreign guys prey on Korean gals. A lot of foreigners and I don't even have "yellow fever." Foreign men are looked on as if we're the (trying to remember the term from my post-Civil War lit. class) brute negro.

Nope. Sorry.

She was giving me a lift, and the text message came literally seconds before I was to get out of the car, so we didn't talk about it very long. She basically said "Sexual...er...sexual...er...something..."

My impression was that there had been an arrest, and she said that she thought the teacher would have to "go out of Korea". So, if the info came from AES, I am not sure how accurate it is.

If the information came from a text message it must be true.

Anti-English spectrum reminds of me anti-Communist witchhunt groups from uni history class. That group hates us yet your coworker still hangs out with you (as a member of said group) Laughing .

Yes. Now that you know that this Korean coworker of yours is in that anti- foreign teacher group arent you worried she is just trying to infiltrate you somehow? She probably has a dossier on you including all of your movements, actions and spoken words. Audio and video as well.

Well, I am not too worried about it. She said that she belongs to them because she is a recruiter, and she had trouble with some teachers in the past that came back to bite her in the ass. So (she says), she belongs just to 'keep up to date' on teachers she may be referring. I believe her. I don't know how effective that site will be for screening her teachers, but I believe her.

Re: the person who commented (sarcastically) that if the info came via text message, then it must be true. I agree. All I can tell you is that I was there when the message came in (I saw her get the phone and read it). I believe she did get that message, but whether the message is true or not, I can't say. It could be the AES guy lying so that has "fans" think he is doing a great job.

They did provide a name and a school, which I won't disclose because the info could be false.
