I'm just wondering about when resign a contract what happens about your visa? Do you get a new one stamped into your passport or do you just get a new and updated alien registration card issued? I'm not leaving the country or changing schools so what would be the usual procedure?

My last school was able to process all the paperwork and get my new visa stamp in my passport for me...but I had an odd passport -- my entry visa was good for 5 years whereas my work visa was only good for a year...so in theory, I could have stayed in Korea for 4 more years after my work visa expired....

Normally, the entry visa and work visa coincide pretty closely...so you may need to do a visa run out of the country at some point, as I think entry visas have to be stamped OUTSIDE of Korea...since my entry visa was still good, my own case was handled without a visa run....

From what I was told, nothing can be done about renewing your visa until 30 days before it expires...so make sure that someone at your school is willing to fill out and file the paperwork for you, and when you hit your last month on the work visa, keep asking about it to make sure it gets done...techinically, it is the teacher's responsibility, but all the schools I worked for have been willing to help with the process...to the point of me simply signing on the x and handing over the 10,000 won for the stamp....

Its very simple. Go to immigration shortly before the expiry date on your alien card. You will need your passport, ARC, a copy of your new contract, & 30000 won, if memory serves. The form you fill out is not difficult to do yourself but someone from your work might help the process go more smoothly (or not! sometimes a Korean companion just serves to complicate things).

You will not get a new stamp in your passport. They only update your file & make a written notation on your card about your new expiry date. You do not need to do a visa run.

At the same time if you plan any travel in the coming year you can fill out a 2nd form & get a reentry permit stamped in your passport. Single reentry 30000, multiple 50000.

Yeah that makes sense my boss took my passport contract and arc to immigration. He said that'd take a few weeks to process, but I was kinda wondering about the stamp in my passport. Thanks a million
