Hi,
Does anyone know where I can find fresh herbs in Daegu please, particularly Basil? |

I think Basil is fairly common, I bought mine from E-mart.
On a side note, just outside of Siji in Gyeongsan, there is a "wholesale" grocery store. Its a small place and nothing like Costco at all. However there are some great deals to be had there if you shop around. Especially of beef and pork, the prices are much cheaper than anything I see around Daegu. Most of what they have are for restaurants and the ajummas and adjussis that run the little food stalls around the city.
Aside from a variety of spices (all in restaurant sized bottles) they have some items that I have seen nowhere else. A few examples..
3 sizes of flour tortillas
A large bag of hot wings - Like the kind you get from Dominoes
Cherries in Syrup - Like what you get on the top of an ice cream sundae
Also they have many things there that make cooking Korean food easy, For example..this is a kind of frozen "Andong Chim Dak". Its a 600 gram frozen pack in sauce of boneless meat. Simply thaw, add your potatoes, carrots, noodles, whatever you like and cook.
There may be other stores such as this around Daegu, but I only know of this one. If you're feeling restless some day, check it out.
Directions - From Sawol station (Line 2-Green) exit subway and walk in direction of Gyeongsan(towards e-mart). Pass E-mart and through large intersection to bottom of the hill. 2nd stoplight- Beside new Daegu Bank is the center. |

Also, forgot to mention, but somewhere in downtown there is a famous "herb market" I'm sure that anything you want you can get there, though you might have to grind it yourself.
Not sure about the exact location, but you can check the Galbijim website for location and possibly a map. |
