I have a friends with benefits thing going on with my ex... which I don't think is the healthiest thing because I suspect she still has strong feelings for me.

About paying for sex, though, it seems like a lot of people on this forum do so and are pretty open about it. There is the anonymity of Dave's, but I'm still surprised with regards to how many people have admitted to using these services or talk about it like it's a totally normal thing. Maybe I've been sheltered my whole life, but I don't personally know anyone who would even think about paying for services at the local "barber" shop (including myself). My roommate during the SMOE orientation went on sex tours in a number of Asian countries and talked to me about it like one would a family vacation to Paris.

Sorry to temporarily derail the topic, but the number of barber shop patrons on thse forums has been on my mind for a while. Is it a completely normal thing to you?

No big deal really. I know a lot of guys back in Chicago who'd go down to Chinatown for a rub and tug. Sex is just sex. Personally I'm not into prostitutes because of sanitary reasons, but if another guy/gal wants to go to one and then tell me about it I wouldn't be overly surprised or think much about it.

It's rather difficult for a woman to pay for sex. Sex is a different proposition for us. For men, the physical act is the thing. For women, there are real emotional factors involved. It's hard to erase that.

I may not speak for all women, but I would feel terrible in even a "friends with benefits" situation. I need the boyfriend; the relationship. Even if I know or suspect he's cheating on me. I don't really care about that. I understand men. But myself, I'm ...not a man.

HollyLove is my real name but my parents almost named me April Blossom

I grew up living on military bases, lived in the very red state of Texas for a while and went to high school in a city that has the highest concentration of Christian fundamentalist in the United states that was also surrounded by 3 military bases and still came out Liberal...haha

My parents were too embarrassed to talk to me about sex so they gave me a video tape of soft porn instead and never mentioned it again

Once you're out of Asia you might find that your understanding of men is culturally informed and be able to raise your standards a bit. Not to get your hopes up or anything, but it seems like every man in Asia has that disconnect between sex and love, but it isn't like that everywhere in the world. Or at least, there are places where men are expected to remain faithful instead of women expected to be understanding.

1. Only planning on doing another year here SOLELY because of this.

2. Still don't know what I'll do or where I'll go and thinking about this very hard.

3. Expect that by the time I have sex again, I will have had a four year dry spell. But it really isn't about the sex.

This is the most depressing thing I have ever read. It makes me glad I'm single.

You can post 3 new true things in every new post. Very Happy

I don't think Janny is sad. Don't we all crave intimacy of some kind?

Or if not intimacy, don't we all crave attention, perhaps by posting meaningless drivel on online forums. Cool

1) I own a modest but expensive collection of Swiss watches.

2) I love hiking, but I have no sense of direction.

3) I'm still angry at my sister for giving her daughter my favourite childhood bedtime pal, "Wally the Wombat", without asking me.

Since you quoted my reply, I guess you want to know my answer to your last question:

1) I've never paid for sex.
2) I used to be a huge prude that would judge people who paid for sex and look down upon them.
3) I had a room mate who used to pay for sex a lot. Our conversations about it opened my eyes to seeing what the deal is. I accept it.

Bonus:

4) I wish when I was single I could have experienced a rub and tug or something like that. Why not? You only live once, and not much difference between that and a lap dance at a strip club. (Married now, so no rub/tug action for me!)

(I'm getting married next year, so maybe I am just supposed to be a good wife and mother! They are the most important and hardest jobs to have!)

How's married life working out for you?

The Lao are the nicest people I have ever met. We built a house beside the Mekong River, I'm the only foreigner in the village. I will live here the rest of my life. There is tons of work, it's still the best bang for your buck around, and the Lao actually want us here, unlike many other places who put up with foreigners to a greater or lesser degree.

Tell me about Laos. Are you still there? I want to go to a nice vacation spot from Korea. What are the 3 best things about Laos?
