terrible story. It will be tough at that school for a long time.
Sounds like poor maintenance on the bus led to the accident. I hope they take more care after this.

They were not teachers, but accountants from various public schools. They had dinner and were on their way to a coffee shop. One of the 7 accountants was from my school. Everyone is shocked by this.

Isn't that also just a polite way of saying 'Mr' in Korean? I don't think accountants would be referred to as teachers, would they?

I wonder if he thought to change down gears, to apply the airbrake, or to be taking it easy on the speed in the first place - I reckon you'd have to be doing 70kmh to that damage - driving thru the main drag of Suyu Kogae at over 50kmh is ridiculous. But, they do hoot along those tour buses.

My brakes failed on me once - very scary it was. Had to change gears down and down until it stopped with the handbrake. It is manageable.

So, what's the bet the bus still sits in high gear ..

Given pictures I saw of the aftermath, I don't think seatbelts would have done any good anyway, if in fact they were not wearing them (as was probably the case).

It's doable. I squeezed seven people (mostly guys) into my Sephia a few years ago and that's a fair bit smaller than an Avante.
