1. Are their any recruiters you would recommend?
2. If I land a job, Would I just need to get a tourist visa and convert to E-2, or will I need to have the E-2 before I go? reason i ask is, I am nowhere near a consulate/embassy to go in and interview for an E-2.
3. I was in Seoul from 2008-2010. Has anything big changed in regards to teaching, hagwons, public schools, etc? |

1. Korvia is good, Korean Horizons is good as well (Horizons only recruits for publics I believe). Canadian Connections is good too (they only recruit for JLP).
2. Pretty sure you have to be OUTSIDE of Korea in order to get the E-2. You could go to Japan for a bit and apply for the visa there?
3. Based off of what I've read on forums, it seems that the job market is much more competitive nowadays. TEFL required for public, and it's seeming more and more that a TEFL is needed to secure a decent hagwon job. They've been cutting public school jobs everywhere. Since there is such a huge influx of teachers, hagwons can afford to be more selective/slightly lower pay/benefits.
I've heard the job market in China is good, but that's if you want to expose yourself to the massive amount of pollution... http://aqicn.org/map/china/ |

thanks for the answers, I used Korvia 5 years ago and they treated me decent.
I have the Tefl and US teaching certs. I am being really picky on what jobs I am going to apply. I think a recruiter is the way to go. Just gotta make sure I pick a good one |

1) all of them.
2) IF you are coming to Korea to teach EFL then get your E2 at home. There is no "interview" unless you have a black mark in your immigration file (overstay, etc).
3)
- There has been a large influx of teachers (primary from the States and UK due to economic issues).
- Public schools have cut back significantly due to policy and financial tightening of the government purse strings. Entry requirements for PS jobs are higher now.
- Salaries and benefits have stagnated or dropped due to the above 2 issues (excess of teachers and reduction in demand).
If you are a certified teacher then look at other options.
http://www.tes.co.uk/jobs <-- pick a corner of the planet and work out from there.
http://www.ibo.org/ <-- apply to schools directly and NOT to the IBO. (school lists on their website by country).
http://www.searchassociates.com <-- fee service but they are pretty good.
http://www.internationalschoolsreview.com <--again, paid service but you can peruse the forums for free.
There are lots of others as well for certified teachers who want to work abroad (Korea and elsewhere).
